1996 old pictures from my archive of the tall pinkish granite Maiden Stone (Drumdurno Stone) near Inverurie with its beautiful pictish symbols of the Beast, Mirror with double-sided comb and notched rectangle with Z-rod on one side and a badly weathered cross topped by a human figure flanked by two sea creatures on the other side. It has a broken missing part on one side near the top. In winter it is now covered to avoid more frost damage.
The beautiful Elgin PIllar, another pictish stone found burried in 1823 in the former churchyard of St. Giles' Church and then relocated in the grounds of Elgin Cathedral ruins. This granite stone has on one side a cross with four figures in the corners and an abstract design formed by animal heads. On the other side are the picĺtish symbols of the double disc and Z-rod, Crescent and V-rod and a hunting scene.
